Executive Report — Board-Ready Financials

Install this skill.

Produces a board-ready or CFO-ready financial statement from Numeric. Strips close-management metadata, collapses child account detail into executive groups, rolls up flux commentary into one-liner narratives, and outputs a presentation-quality Excel or PDF.

Before You Begin

  • Numeric MCP connected.
  • Numeric Toolkit installed.
  • IS and (optionally) BS reports available for the target period.
  • Flux commentary populated if you want narrative rollups per group.

Think of it as the opposite of a close-management view — this is what you hand to the board.

How It Works

  1. Ask Claude for the executive report. Example prompts:
    • "Build the board report."
    • "CFO-ready income statement."
    • "Collapse the P&L into executive groups."
    • "Investor-deck financials for Q1."
  2. Claude confirms expected outputs and behavior: workspace, period, entity scope (single or consolidated), output format (Excel or PDF), comparison (prior month, prior year, budget vs actual, or none).
  3. Claude retrieves and maps IS, BS, chart of accounts, and flux tasks in parallel. Claude maps every account to larger financial statement categories and group — never silently drops anything.
  4. Claude also rolls up flux commentary for any group with material variance (>5% or >$10K).
  5. Claude produces a formatted Excel (default) or PDF output.

What You Get

A polished workbook or presentation artifact, with

  • IS collapsed to executive groups — Revenue, COGS, Gross Profit, R&D, S&M, G&A, Operating Income, Other, Tax, Net Income. Inline Gross Margin %. EBITDA reconciliation block after Net Income.
  • BS collapsed to executive groups — Cash, AR, Total Current Assets, Fixed Assets, Total Assets, AP, Accrued, Deferred Revenue, Total Liabilities, Equity.
  • Period-over-period variance columns — $ and % with red for unfavorable.
  • One-line flux narratives directly under any group with material variance (>5% or >$10K).
  • Presentation formatting — Numeric brand colors, Arial, scale shorthand ($66.0M, $341.3K), parentheses for negatives, em dash for zero.
  • Account Mapping Notes at the bottom — anything ambiguous is listed, never silently dropped.

Troubleshooting

Issue What to Check
Intercompany wasn't eliminated
The skill flags when IC elim is needed and waits for your confirmation. Never silently nets.
Flux commentary missing
Only groups with populated flux get a narrative. Run Auto-Draft Flux Explanations first for fuller coverage.
Wrong group mapping
Check the "Account Mapping Notes" section — any ambiguous accounts are listed with their chosen mapping. Re-run with manual overrides if needed.
Multi-entity output didn't consolidate
Consolidation requires explicit IC elimination confirmation — the skill produces per-entity sheets by default. Re-run with the consolidation flag to merge.
PDF formatting off
PDF uses HTML → PDF pipeline. Excel is more reliable; prefer it unless you specifically need PDF.

FAQ

  • PDF or Excel? Excel by default. PDF on request.
  • Custom groupings? Yes — ask Claude to update the skill's group mapping.
  • Industry-specific (manufacturing, insurance)? Ask Claude to adjust the default groupings.
